A big thank you to Susan Jones for all of the hard work she put in to the Race for the Cure. NWN raised $5,950 which greatly surpassed our previous total of $2,400. We had several participants in both the open and competitive races. Kevin Jones had the fastest NWN time with a blistering 7 min/mile pace.

This year NWN Morrisville’s Susan Jones took on the responsibility of being Team Captain for “NWN for the Cure” for the 11^th Annual Susan G. Komen Triangle Race for the Cure of Breast Cancer on June 9^th at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC. Susan has taken on the task of recruiting not only family and friends, but co-workers to join the team to walk/run in the upcoming race. To date NWN has a total of 26 team members registered and has raised $1,450! NWN South has agreed to match 100% of all donations, which brings the total to $2,900, surpassing last year’s total of $2,272.50!

Susan’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001 and fought courageously until April 10, 2006. Susan and her family started to participate in the Triangle Race for the Cure in 2003 as a way to honor her mother’s fight and help raise money for a cure. In 2005 she captained the first annual 4Front Team. There are several other employees of NWN-South whose lives have been personally touched by breast cancer as well. Last year the team was honored with the local Sunny Radio 93.9 Spirit Award for showing the true spirit of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and was presented a plaque by morning show host Madison on race day. Having a team to participate in this event was a way for Susan to honor her mother and her 5 year fight.

Susan organized a “Think Pink” day on Friday May 11^th as a registration/fundraiser drive to bring out awareness of the cause and the race. Lunch was provided and “Think Pink” items were available thanks to Molly Hildebrandt, Rebekah Hammon, and NWN. Those wearing pink to the luncheon were entered to win a $25 gift certificate to a restaurant of their choice and Tina Dorsey was the lucky winner!
